ADRIAN MARTIN GUTIERREZ
ALAMO – Adrian Martin Gutierrez, 67, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at DHR Health Hospice in Edinburg, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Adrian and Minerva Gutierrez. Mr. Gutierrez is survived by his wife, Maritza Jaime de Gutierrez of Alamo, Texas; three children, Erika (Luis) Pacheco of Weston, Florida, Adrian Giovanni (Michele) Gutierrez of Crofton, Maryland, and Andres Gutierrez of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; six grandchildren (Nikolai, Julian, Michael, Adrian Lucas, Kelly, Emily; one great-grandchild (Greyson); and four siblings, Glenda I. Garza of Pharr, Texas, Marco A. (Rubi) Gutierrez of Edinburg, Texas, Hiram A. (Corina) Gutierrez of McAllen, Texas, and David (Kimberly) Gutierrez of Plantation, Florida.
Adrian began pursuing his passion for flying at 16 when he took flying lessons at McCreery Aviation in McAllen, Texas. Upon graduating from Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School in 1976, he moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and attended Spartan School of Aeronautics. Adrian obtained his Private Pilot's License, Commercial Pilots License, Flight Instructor Multi-Engine, and Air Transport Pilot ratings at Spartan. Adrian began his professional flying career at Hunt-Pan Am in Brownsville, Texas, teaching new pilots how to fly.
During his flying career that spanned nearly 50 years, Adrian logged thousands of flight hours, taught hundreds of aspiring pilots, and flew various aircraft, including single-engine airplanes, WW2 era aircraft, and jet aircraft. Adrian finished his flying career as a United States Department of Agriculture pilot.
Adrian served his community and church as a 4th Degree Knight of the Alamo Knights of Columbus, Alamo Lions Club, Wolverines Quarterback Club, and Pharr Rifle & Pistol Club. Adrian's adventurous spirit led him to pursue hobbies such as hunting, fishing, camping, scuba diving, sky diving, amateur radio, traveling and as an enthusiastic collector.
Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. with a 6 p.m. rosary on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. A Memorial Mass will take place at 2 p.m., Friday, August 30, 2024, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
