Aida Yvonne (Loza-Cantu) Chapa, 75, our beloved mother passed away to be with the Lord in heaven after a long struggle with multiple illnesses on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at McAllen Medical Center.
Yvonne was born on November 11, 1947, in Edinburg, Texas to Lily Flores-Loza and Antonio Loza. She was the 4th child and eldest daughter of 6 children. She started her role as a mother, and wife at an early age, though challenging she still managed to receive a degree in Education with honors, and later a Masters in School Administration.
She took great pride in working for the Edinburg School District as a teacher, and later an administrator training other teachers.
Her greatest pride however was that of being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Yvonne loved cooking up a wonderful meal and making her famous cakes, pies, and Christmas cookies for all her family and friends. She said it was all about making memories. She was a woman who never let adversity slow her down and saw each obstacle as a challenge. Yvonne was a true inspiration who showed so much love everyday through her words and actions.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Antonio Loza and Lily Belen Flores-Loza; daughter, Cynthia Celene Cantu; son, Jose Eduardo "Ed" Cantu Jr., a brother, Tony Loza Jr.; and her first husband, Jose Eduardo Cantu Sr.
Mrs. Chapa is survived by her husband, Leonardo B. Chapa; three children, Veronica Cantu (Ray) Mandes, Dr. Ramon (Danette) Cantu, Aissa (Daniel) Fletcher; three step-children, Tina (Jaime) Vallejo, Leo (Monique) Chapa, Gina (Carlos) Guerrero; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four siblings, Leo (Glenda) Loza, Bobby (Cookie) Loza, Blanca Loza, and Jo-Ann (Pat) Lynch; sister-in-law, Sue Loza; and daughter-in-law, Yvonne Cantu.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary Friday, June 23, 2023, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Memorial mass will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment of cremated remains will follow at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home.
