JOSEFINA T. ALVARADO

SAN JUAN - Josefina T. Alvarado, 81, passed away May 25, 2010, at her home.
Josefina was born on Juanary 14, 1929 in San Juan where she was a lifelong resident. She enjoyed attending her adult day care center and had a passion for playing bingo. She was affectingly called "Grandma Bingo" by her grandchildren. She was a caring and loving mother and grandmother and was always there for her sons and family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Francisco Tijerina and Emilia Martinez Tijerina; two brothers, Antonio de Jesus Tijerina and Mercelino "Chelo" Martinez; and a brother-in-law, Henry Hernandez.
Josefina is survived by her three sons, Rigoberto (Martha) Alvarado, of Alamo, Juan Luis (Yolanda) Alvarado, of San Juan, Celso (Gloria M.) Alvarado Jr., of Alamo; two sisters, Juanita Hernandez, of San Antonio, Alicia (Antonio) Cortez, of Alamo; and her former spouse, Celso Alvarado Sr. In addition she is survived by her grandchildren, Celso Pablo (Maricela) Alvarado, Erik Gabriel (Connie) Alvarado, Rigoberto Alvarado Jr., David Alvarado, Anthony Alvarado, Geovanna Alvarado, Sandy Alvarado, Juan Luis Alvarado Jr., Jose Luis Alvarado and Brenda Washington; nine great-grandchildren, Matthew Alvarado, Benjamin Alvarado, Angel Alvarado, Sarriyah Alvarado, Ashley Nicole Perez, Aisha Nicole Perez, Briana Lee Perez, Devin Rey Alvarado and Jenifer Alvarado; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 pm, with a 7 pm rosary today, May 27, 2010, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 10 am Friday, May 28, 2010, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at San Juan Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Celso Pablo Alvarado, Erik Gabriel Alvarado, Juan Luis Alvarado Jr., Jose Luis Alvarado, Ray Ramon Alaniz and Santos Vallejo Sr.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
