Anna Luz Sandoval Arredondo, 77, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Legend Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Kyle, Texas.
Born in Edinburg, Texas on August 4, 1947, Anna Luz grew up in Houston and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in downtown Houston and then earned her degree in education from Sam Houston State University. For 30 years, she shared her passion for reading and English with countless students including those in the Donna Independent School District, making a lasting impact on their lives. Her gentle nature and unwavering dedication made her a beloved teacher and friend.
Anna had a love for travel; she also worked in the airlines and travel agency industry. This passion took her to Paris, Canada, Mexico and various places within the United States.
Anna Luz had a heart full of love for her family and was known for her kindness, warmth, and sweet smile. Anna Luz was a special presence in the lives of those closest to her, particularly her daughter Tricia and son-in-law Leo Palacios, both of Austin, Texas, who were her greatest joys.
Anna Luz’s bubbly personality and joy for her extended family were boundless. She has numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and she never missed an opportunity to celebrate them, remembering every birthday and special moment. Her thoughtfulness and attention to detail were always apparent, especially in the random, sometimes quirky, messages she sent just to let everyone know she was thinking of them.
She was an avid sports fan. She LOVED her Houston Astros, Rockets, Texans and, of course, The Texas Longhorns... Hook’em!
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jose Artemio Sandoval and Magdalena (Contreras) Sandoval; a beloved sister, Alma Rose Evans; and a brother, Monty Lee Bradley.
Anna Luz is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Leo) Palacios; four step-grandchildren, Aaron Garza & Cystal Reynolds, Laura & David Aleman, Audrey Palacios & Mark Szymala and Leo & Stefanie Palacios; eight step-great-grandchildren, Alexa, Gianna, Nicholas, Noah, Sebastian, Trystan, Ximena and Laila; a niece, Jennifer & Matt Muenchow and their son, Maxwell; a nephew, Edmundo & Diana Martinez Jr. and their daughters, Victoria and Vivian; and her two grand-pets, Sandy and Kylie.
Anna Luz will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and constant thoughtfulness will remain in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
The family would like to Thank Legend Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation for their love and care of our mother during the last years of her life.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Anna Luz's name to the Rene Adrian Sandoval Sr. Jazz Scholarship at this link: https://bold.org/funds/rene-a-sandoval-sr-jazz-scholarship-fund/. Anna Luz loved her late Uncle Rene and his wonderful jazz musical talent.
