December 16, 1960 — January 29, 2015

CELIA AVILA EDINBURG – Celia Avila, 54, was called home Thursday, January 29, 2015, at Comfort House in McAllen. Born in Edinburg, she had lived there all of her life. Mrs. Avila is preceded in death by her grandmothers, Inez Salinas and Maria Garza; in-laws, Fidel and Irene Avila; and a sister-in-law, Iris Avila. She is survived by her husband Jorge Avila; two daughters, Amanda Avila, Anyssa (Misael De Leon, Jr.) Avila; parents, Donato C. and Francisca Salinas; one brother, Donato (Edith) Salinas, Jr.; four sisters, Susie (Joe) Mercado, Sylvia Salinas, Yolanda Granados and Inez Salinas; sister-in-law, Becky (Mario) Medina; brother-in-law, David (Margarita) Avila; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of Edinburg. Mrs. Avila was employed at E.C.I.S.D. for 26 years as a teacher, curriculum assistant, and most recently, principal at Truman Elementary. A rosary will take place at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, February 1, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Comfort House of McAllen. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
