RUBEN AYALA, JR.
Edinburg - Ruben Ayala, Jr. was born on June 13, 1962, in Edinburg, Texas. He passed away peacefully at home on March 28, 2016, at age 53. Ruben was a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He went to church every Sunday at La Basilica de San Juan, and would bring his parents breakfast after church. Like his parents, he had a passion for and loved to dance. He won a spot on the popular Mexico City "Siempre en Domingo" Show.
Ruben was a member of the Edinburg High School marching band and was a long time baseball and basketball player at all levels. He was a member of the 1983 UTRGV (PAU) baseball team. Ruben was recently inducted into the UTRGV Athletics Hall of Fame. While at Pan American, he was a member of the Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity.
Ruben dedicated his adult life to law enforcement. He was a police officer with the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, McAllen Independent School District and the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District for 30 years.
Ruben is survived by his parents, Ruben and Gloria Ayala; five children, Jada Lynn Ayala, Amanda Renee Ayala, Ruben Ayala III, Briana Marie Ayala and Kayla Ann Ayala; six grandchildren, Michael Mendez, Brandon Mendez, Rodney Garza, Bailey Leaan Ayala, Makala Marie Pedroza and D’andre Cuevas; a brother, Jaime (Janet) Ayala; a sister, Dora (Louie) Flores; three nieces; and two nephews.
The Honor Guards from Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Department, the Edinburg CISD and the Edinburg Police Department will be providing colors. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ruben Ayala III, Jaime Ayala Jr., Eric Fox, Eddie Trejo, Larry Ruiz, Marco Luis Flores, his three grandsons, Michael and Brandon Mendez, Rodney Garza, and the 1983 UTRGV (PAU) baseball team.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at El Rucio Cemetery in San Manuel.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
