Joann Bannworth

February 2, 1943 — August 29, 2021

JoAnn Bannworth, a long-time resident of the Sharyland area, peacefully passed away on Sunday the 29th of August at McAllen Medical Center.
Born in 1943 in McAllen, TX to Harold George and Nola Clay Bannworth, JoAnn was a 1960 class graduate of McAllen High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Pan American University (UT Rio Grande Valley).
JoAnn taught 3rd grade at Victor Fields Elementary School for several years. In a career shift, she joined the family produce company in La Joya, TX as the office manager. Later she used those managerial skills as the owner of the Imperial Motor Inn, a former McAllen landmark inn with the jeweled crown perched on the sign. JoAnn then returned to her love of education as the owner of CCLS Language School.
JoAnn liked to attend and dance at the local concerts performed by the Renaissance Rockers. Her home was as much her sanctuary as it was her creative outlet. She also loved a spirited political campaign. JoAnn had a heart as big as Texas and would do almost anything for family, friends, and the animals in her life.
She is survived by her three children Becky Gallagher (Mark), Charlie "Buddy" Woods (Tywilla), Michelle Plumeri, three grandchildren Fr. Joshua Warshak, Mac McMillon (Chelsie), Connor Woods, and one great-grandchild Cheyson McMillon, all of whom brought joy to her life.
A memorial service will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg, TX.
