JOEL BARRERA
EDINBURG – Joel Barrera, 50, entered eternal rest on Monday, April 12, 2010, at McAllen Medical Center.
Mr. Barrera was born in McAllen and worked most of his life in the casino industry in Las Vegas and Bogotá Colombia. He also enjoyed composing music and playing the guitar. Mr. Barrera returned to the valley in 2006 from Colombia and enjoyed reuniting with his family.
He is preceded in death by his father, Adan Barrera; two brothers, Richard Barrera and Adan Barrera Jr.
Mr. Barrera is survived by his mother, Armandina Pena of McAllen; two brothers, Raul S. (Emma) Barrera of San Juan and Gilberto Barrera of Plano, Texas; three sisters, Diana (Omar) De Alejandro of Alamo, Criselda (Raul) Escareno of Pharr and Mary Barrera of Houston, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary today, April 14, 2010, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 East Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in McAllen. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen.
