YOLANDA A. BARRERA
MCALLEN – Yolanda A. Barrera, 62, passed away and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg.
Mrs. Barrera was born in Corpus Christi, Texas and had lived in McAllen most of her life. She was a member of Los Wesleyanos United Methodist Church in San Juan.
She was a faithful wife for almost 39 years and a devoted mother to her three children. For 22 years, she worked as a public school teacher before working in the family business, Balde's Auto Sales. Mrs. Barrera was an active member of the United Methodist Church throughout her life and worked alongside her husband in church ministry. She was blessed in having a wonderful voice and enjoyed participating in the church choir.
Mrs. Barrera is survived by her husband, Rev. Baldemar Barrera of McAllen; three sons, James, Ma rk and Jake Barrera all of McAllen; three brothers, Alfonso Zapata of Silver Springs, Maryland, Louis Zapata and Aaron Zapata both of Corpus Christi, Texas; three sisters, Alba Sewell of Valrico, Florida, Wanda Garza of Hondo, Texas and Lidia Lazo of Corpus Christi, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service, today, August 23, 2009, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, August 24, 2009 at La Trinidad United Methodist Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
