GERTRUDES R. BENAVIDEZ PHARR - Gertrudes R. Benavidez, 94, died Monday, July 22, 2013, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen. Mrs. Benavidez was born in San Juan, Texas and lived in Pharr most of her life. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo P. Benavidez. Mrs. Benavidez is survived by two daughters, Annie (Rene) Guerra of San Juan and Nellie (Victor) Guzman of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Samantha (Arturo) Cano, Denise (Juan) Jimenez, Victor (Lourdes) Guzman Jr., and Kevin M. (Erika) Guzman; five great-grandchildren, Alyssa Cano, Anyssa Cano, Angelina Jimenez, Michelle Guzman and Wyatt Guzman; a sister, Jovita G. Cantu of Pharr; and a brother, Roy Rutledge of Pharr. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2013, at Los Wesleyanos United Methodist Church in San Juan. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. Pallbearers will be Rene Guerra, Arturo Cano Jr., Juan Jimenez, Victor Guzman Sr., Victor Guzman Jr., and Kevin Guzman. Honorary pallbearers will be Alyssa Cano, Anyssa Cano and Angelina Jimenez. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
