HERBERT OWEN BEST JR.
MCALLEN - Herbert Owen Best Jr, born April 27, 1954, in Laredo, TX, was unexpectedly called to our Lord on Saturday, July 24, 2021.
He was a graduate of Nixon High School in 1972 and Texas A & I University at Laredo (Laredo State University) in 1977. Herb had recently retired and was focused on serving God and family. Born in Laredo, TX, Herb had the opportunity to live in several states while his dad served in the Air Force. He loved Jesus, his family, animals, and sports. Active at The Family Church since 2009, Herb truly was a man of God. Herb's kindness, humor, and humility will stay with us always. Herb's message for life was to have joy and the verse he lived by was "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice." Phil 4:4.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Best.
Herb was an amazing father and grandfather along with Terry, to their children, Trey Best & Glory and her husband Josh Black; and five grandchildren, Nathaniel, Gracelynn, Teriza, Oliver, and soon to come, Leilani. Herb is also survived by his parents, Herb and Gloria Best; his brother, Raymond Best, DDS; former sisters-in-law, Sharon and Laura; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends at a service on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at 10 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg, with Pastor John Brady of The Family Church officiating. A Graveside Service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, in Laredo, TX.
