Blanca Escobar

May 3, 1928 — June 25, 2023

Edinburg

After a short illness and a long interesting life our beloved Blanca, 95, who was born May 3, 1928 in Mercedes, Texas entered rest on June 25, 2023.
After graduating from Mercedes High School in 1946, Blanca worked as a bookkeeper for over 47 years. After retirement in 1993, she volunteered at Brewster Elementary School, where her daughter taught. Blanca loved to travel including going to see her son in England. She also went to France, Germany, and Belgium. She loved shopping and gambling. She enjoyed the casinos in Las Vegas, traveled by bus to casinos in Louisiana, and played the many "legal" slot machines found throughout the Rio Grande Valley. She played the football pots religiously, and more often than not, she won big time.
One of her greatest joys was playing "Chalupa" and other numbers games at one of her sister's home. There were many "friendly discussions" whenever she won; but most of all, she enjoyed her sisters' company.
Blanca enjoyed shopping and remembering her nieces and nephews' birthdays with presents and cards. She loved writing messages during all the holidays including birthdays. Even as her eyesight started to fail her, she continued her tradition of keeping in touch. She always appreciated receiving letters, cards, phone calls, and all communication from everyone who fondly remembered her. She always responded with phone calls and thank you notes. She was full of life and will be missed by many.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Noe Escobar; daughter, Norma Ann Escobar; parents, Francisco and Angelita Rivera; four brothers, Joe, Balde, Frankie, and Cande Rivera; and two sisters, Delia Abrego and Lucia Romero.
Mrs. Escobar is survived by her son, Rudy (Linda) Escobar; granddaughter, Jessika (Dr. Alfred) Wettermark; grandson, Randall (Crystal) Escobar; and her love and joy, great-grandson, Benjamin Boyce Wettermark; three sisters, Mary (Gilbert) Dominguez, Maricela Galvan, Angelita (Henry) Longoria; and many nieces and nephews who lovingly called her "Aunt B".
The Escobar family wishes to commend and thank the professionalism and loving care administered by the staff, especially the CNAs, at Windsor Arbor View in caring for my mother. Special thanks to her provider, Elva Pereda.
Honorary pallbearers are: Gilbert Dominguez, Henry Longoria, Enrique R. Longoria III, Joey Rivera, Jaime Romero, Chris M. Garza, Tom Salinas, and Zeke Salinas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palm Valley Animal Society Trenton Center, 2501 W. Trenton Rd. Edinburg, Texas 78539 or to your favorite charity.
