CDR. ALBERT GREENLEAF BOREN
ALAMO - CDR. Albert Greenleaf BOREN, 91, US Navy-Retired, born Hastings, Ne. 1918. Peacefully passed away with his loving wife and son at his side in his home in Alamo, Tx., and joined our Father, God, Thursday, June 17, 2010.
He was a US Naval Aviator for 27 years. During WWII, in the Pacific Campaign, he was on the USS Enterprise with VF-10, known as the Grim Reapers, and the USS Monterey. He received his Purple Heart Medal while flying cover for a bombing and torpedo attack on shipping at New Ireland. Albert also served our country and the United Nations in the Korean Conflict as a member of VF-63, the Fighting Red Cocks, aboard the USS Yorktown.
He retired from the Navy while serving as the Commanding Officer of the Naval and Marine Corp Reserve Training Center in Lincoln, Ne. October 1968.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, son Dan and daughter Saundra.
He is survived by his loving wife, Thelma, of 66 years. Daughter Janice of Sun City, Az., sons Michael and wife Deb of Tabor, Ia, Tom and wife Deborah of Davey, Ne., Paul of Mission, Tx., Barbara, widow of Dan, of Clive, Ia., and 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned at a later date in Lincoln, Ne., where he served and retired.
Men like Cdr. Boren put their lives on the line daily for our Country's and World's freedom and this is still carried on today by our courageous military men and women.
He will remain in our hearts and cherished in our memories.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
