Larry was born in Salem, Illinois to Harlin Lester and Freda Ruth Burgess. Larry moved to Donna, Texas located in the Rio Grande Valley in 1980 and for 13 years owned motels and a restaurant until retirement in 1997. Prior to that Larry was in the home building business in southern Illinois. Larry loved spending time with family anytime he could. He spent his retirement traveling, playing golf, enjoying country/gospel/bluegrass music, watching golf, and playing poker with his buddies. Larry and Sandra spent many years traveling all 48 states in their RV including spending the last 20 summers in Colorado where lifelong friends were made. He was an excellent grill man & loved to eat good food, especially if it was cooked by his wife or sisters. And back in the day, he used to like a good cold beer or three. He was a lead by example father and friend, always treating people with respect, and he passed those traits down to his family. Larry loved sharing his love of the Lord, was an active member of Alamo First Baptist Church, and just a few days ago was singing Amazing Grace with his family.
