BEATRIZ P. CANO PHARR-Beatriz P. Cano, 90, passed away, Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen, Texas. She was our beloved mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and sister and we are blessed to have shared in her life. Beatriz was born on October 13, 1922 in San Juan, Texas to Zacarias Pena and Lilia Cantu. She grew up in San Juan where she met and married Refugio “Cuco” Cano, her husband of 45 years. Together Beatriz and her husband worked tirelessly to build and expand their grocery business until their retiremet in1975. She was a steadfast, hardworking partner who played a vital role in the success of their business ventures. She served as an excellent role model to her three children who valued and respected her work ethic, her commitment to family and her quiet strength. She will be missed by family and friends who remember her as a peace-loving, gentle and kind person. She is survived by her daughter, Aida (Ricardo) Escobar of Pharr; son, Rolando (Enriqueta) Cano, daughter, Elena Luderus, of San Antonio; six grandchildren, Rick (Nella) Escobar, of Pharr, Cynthia (Robert) Perales, of Donna, Beatriz Mora, David Cano, Lauren (Bryan) Meyenberg, Gina (Jonathan) Yokley, all of San Antonio; eight great- grandchildren; and three siblings Hector Vasquez, of San Juan, Librada Serna, of Pharr and Mary Ramirez of San Juan. Visitation will be held from 5pm to 9pm with a rosary at 7pm today, December 27, 2012, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, December 28, 2012 at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission, Texas. Serving as pall bearers will be Rick Escobar, Robert Perales, Jonathan Yokley, Mario Cantu, Bobby Pena and Roy Pena. Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan, Texas.
