ALFONSO CANTU EDINBURG - Alfonso Cantu, 74, was called to be with our Lord Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen. Mr. Cantu had lived in Edinburg all of his life. Alfonso had a passion for horses. He enjoyed watching western movies and spending quality time with his family. He will be greatly missed but will never be forgotten. He is preceded in death by his father, Manuel Cantu; and a brother, Aniceto Cantu. Alfonso is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Zenaida Cantu; eight children, Alfonso (Diana) Cantu, Jr., Irene Cantu, Rogelio (Raquel) Cantu, Cristina (Rodolfo) Reyna, Cindia (Jorge) Saldana, Sonia Cantu, Carilu (Santos) Leal, Josue (Elizabeth) Cantu; mother, San Juana Cantu; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; eight siblings, Alfredo (Maria) Cantu, Odilia (Ramiro) Ruiz, San Juanita (Rafael) Guajardo, Agripina (Reymundo) Escobar, Manuel (Nelda) Cantu, Jr., Esperanza (Candido) Banda, Ernesto (Felicia) Cantu, David Cantu; and a sister-in-law, Maria Santana Cantu. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service today, November 17, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, November 18, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
