ANTONIO CANTU PHARR – Antonio Cantu, 82, died Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at Biltmore Assisted Living in McAllen. Born in Mexico to Jose and Elvira Cantu, he had lived in Pharr all of his life. He was employed by Union Pacific Railroad for 39 years until his retirement. He is preceded in death by his wife, Carmen R. Cantu; a son, Ricardo Cantu; a brother, Heriberto Cantu; and three sisters, Josefa Aguirre, Juana Lopez and Ofelia Reyna. Antonio is survived by six children, Antonio (+ Martha) Cantu, Jr. of Hockley, TX, Rogelio (Sierra) Cantu of Lake Jackson, TX, Thelma (Jerry) Garcia of McAllen, Javier (Maria) Cantu, Elizabeth (Jose) Saucedo, both of Edinburg, Norma Leticia Cantu (Esperanza Rendon) of San Antonio, Texas; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Eduardo Cantu of Rock Island, TX. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Friday, October 31, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 1, 2014, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
