Luis M. Cantu, 61, entered eternal rest Sunday, October 10, 2021, at his residence in Edinburg.
He was born to Jose Cantu and Andrea Martinez in Edinburg on June 21, 1960. He was a drummer for over 30 years and played with various bands, including Los Fantasmas del Valle. One of his proudest achievements was playing on the Johnny Canales Show.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Isabel Soto, Lydia Romo; and a brother, Jose Cantu Jr.
Mr. Cantu is survived by his wife, Maria Aracely 'Shelly' Cantu; his son and pride and joy, Luis Cantu Jr., both of Edinburg; siblings, Rosita (Luis †) De Anda of McAllen, Dominga (Marcelino) Ybarra of Edinburg, Juan (Nellie) Cantu of Brownsville, Jesus (Rosie) Cantu of Edinburg, Eva (Frank) Gonzalez of Killeen, Javier (Elsa) Cantu of Mission, Jaime Cantu of Edinburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 6 p.m. rosary today October 12, 2021, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 East Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
