MARIA ELENA CANTU EDINBURG – Maria Elena Cantu, 61, died Saturday, April 4, 2015, at Amara Hospice Inpatient Facility in Edinburg. Maria was born November 19, 1953 in Mexico and moved to the U.S. when she was 2 years old. On February 27, 1978 she married her soul mate. She had been a migrant worker her whole life and was very proud of that. Maria, along with her husband, started Cantu Harvesting and had worked for Anderson Produce for over 30 years. She was an active member and a great contributor of Christian Life Church. She loved spending time with her family and serving God. Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Francisco Baldomero and Maria Del Refugio Coronado; a brother, Adan Coronado; and a niece, Stephanie Anne Coronado. Mrs. Cantu is survived by her husband, Jose Maria Cantu; two sons, Victor Enrique (Laura) Cantu, Pablo Cantu; four daughters, Marissa (Victor) Lopez, Adelina (Robert) Salinas, Laura Cantu, Josie Marie Cantu, all of Edinburg; 11 grandchildren, Briana, Andrya, Samarah, Tristan, Robbyn, Caitlin, Austin, Victor Andres, Isabella, Alejandro and Avery; one great-granddaughter, Cailynn; four brothers; Ruben (Twila) Coronado of California, Isaias Coronado of Humble, Pablo (Iris) Coronado & Francisco Jr. (Susan) Coronado of Edinburg; five sisters, Maria Isabel (Alberto) De Leon, Eliza Coronado, Eva (Eliezer) Olivares, Elizabet (Esequiel) Zarate, all of Edinburg, Rebecca (Marcos) Alaniz of Carrizo Springs; numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved all very dearly. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service Monday, April 6, 2015, at Christian Life Church in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Christian Life Church, officiated by Pastor Alfredo Herrera. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
