IDA G. CARRILLO
PHARR - Ida G. Carrillo, 77, died Thursday, February 3, 2011, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen.
She was born in Pharr and had lived there most of her life. Mrs. Carrillo and her husband established Vic's Auto Rebuilders of Pharr in 1967 and in 2000 they were recognized as Citizens of the Year by the Pharr Chamber of Commerce.
Mother was a proud Girl Scout and enjoyed bragging about being a softball pitcher when she was a young girl. She enjoyed playing bingo and gambling at Flamingo Casino in Las Vegas, but what she enjoyed most in life was cooking and baking for her family. Mother loved having all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren over for family get-togethers. According to her grandchildren she made the best Mexican rice with mole and her tamales were "the best in the whole wide world". She loved all of her nieces and nephews and appreciated the thoughtful phone calls, greeting cards and flowers they often sent her which would bring her much joy. Mother often spoke of how wonderful and special her comadres were to her.
We would like to give an extra special "Thank you" to Janie Gante for taking care of our mother and showing her love and affection; we cannot thank you enough.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Victor Carrillo Sr., three brothers, Leobardo Gonzalez, Arturo Garza, Domingo Garza; and four sisters, Melchora Elizondo, Marta Medina, Julia Villarreal and Lupe Martinez.
Mrs. Carrillo is survived by eight children, Mario (Adela) Carrillo, Connie (Tony) Lozano, Fred (Noraima) Carrillo, Victor (Ana) Carrillo Jr., Bobby (Dolly) Carrillo, all of Pharr, Ida (Danny) Cuellar, of San Juan, Sandra (Roberto) Gonzalez and Johnny (Karla) Carrillo, both of McAllen; 24 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary was held Friday, February 4, 2011, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 2 pm today, February 5, 2011, at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Pallbearers will be Richard Carrillo, Alfredo Carrillo Jr., Javier Alejandro Carrillo, Danny Cuellar, Roberto Roque Gonzalez, Victor Carrillo Jr., Bobby Carrillo and Juan Carlos Carrillo. Honorary pallbearers will be Peter Martinez, Joel Suarez, Marco Antonio Gonzalez, Victor Carrillo III, Juan Carlos Carrillo II, Alejandro Carrillo and Bob Carrillo Jr.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
