MANUEL CASANOVA

EDINBURG/SAN ANTONIO - Manuel Casanova, died Friday, December 30, 2011, at McAllen Heart Hospital. Born in San Antonio, he lived there most of his life and moved to Edinburg in 1985.

Manuel proudly served in the U.S. Army and is a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. Then he tireless worked to help improve the lives of veterans for many years with the American GI Forum and Veterans Outreach Program.

He is survived by his mother, Lupe Gonzales, of San Antonio, and preceded in death by his father, Alfonso Casanova.

Mr. Casanova also is survived by his wife, Adriana Casanova of Edinburg; a son, Stephen (Anna) Casanova and daughter, Jennifer Ann Casanova, both of San Antonio; two stepchildren, Robert (Lisa) Garza, of Arlington, Texas, Jessica Garza, of Edinburg; eight grandchildren; a brother, Jacob Casanova, of Houston, Texas; and a sister, Rita Casanova, of Austin, Texas.

The Casanova family would like to send a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Angelito DeDios, Dr. Julian Gomez, and their staffs for extraordinary service. Additional thanks to the doctors and nurses of the McAllen Heart Hospital for their compassionate care.

A rosary was held Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. today, January 4, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in McAllen. Inurnment of cremated remains will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by VFW 8788 of McAllen, Texas.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
