EDINBURG – Jose Castaneda, 72, died Monday, December 12, 2016, at his residence in Edinburg.
Born in McAllen, Mr. Castaneda had lived in Edinburg most of his life. He was a great husband, father and a wonderful grandfather. Mr. Castaneda was a Mission firefighter and proudly served the United States Navy.
Mr. Castaneda is survived by his wife, Noelia Castaneda of Edinburg; five sons, Joe (Glory) Castaneda, Javier (Elena) Castaneda, both of Germen Town, Maryland, Frank (Stacey) Elizondo of Spring, Texas, Jerry (Velma) Castaneda of Mission, Joel (Abigail) Castaneda of San Antonio; five daughters, Velma Castaneda, Sonia Castaneda, Cristela Elizondo , all of San Antonio, Eliza (Ricardo) Cristan, Norma (Heriberto Gloria) Elizondo, both of Edinburg; 21 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, December 15, 2016, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
