PEDRO S. CASTILLO
ALAMO – Pedro S. Castillo, 95, died Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at Grand Terrace Rehabilitation and Health Care in McAllen under Gracia Hospice Care.
He was a lifelong resident of Alamo, Texas until 2007 then moved to Alfredo Gonzales Texas State Veterans Home in McAllen, Texas.
Pedro was very proud to have served his country during WW II in the Army Air Forces, as Private Duty Soldier III in the Western Pacific, and Eastern Mandates Air Offensive in Japan with honorable discharge including several medals. During his lifetime he worked migrating with his family, a custodian at an elementary school and a sales clerk for a clothing store for many years.
Our dad was a dedicated, supportive and loving husband, father and grandpa. He loved his wife, sons, daughters and grandchildren dearly and worked very hard to provide for his household. He had a strong faith in God and always taught us to believe the same. His life was completely devoted to God and family.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Maria V. Castillo; a daughter, Infant Rosario Castillo; a grandson, Stephen Gabriel Reyna; his parents, Zeferino and Sara Castillo; half-siblings, Adelino Hernandez, Teresa Hernandez, Juan Hernandez Sr. and Antonia Hernandez.
Mr. Castillo is survived by seven children, Eusebia A. Castillo of Pharr, Carmen C. (Jose Cruz) Cortez of Edinburg, Pedro Castillo Jr. of Delano, CA, Perfecto David (Maria) Castillo, Maria Del Rosario (Felix) Reyna, Eduardo Castillo, Guadalupe Alicia Castillo, all of Alamo; a brother, Filomeno (Juanita) Castillo Sr. of Mason City, Iowa; a sister in law, Andrea Hernandez of Alamo; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service Thursday , December 28, 2017, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2017, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
