ALFREDO LEONEL "FRED" CAVAZOS
MCALLEN - Alfredo Leonel "Fred" Cavazos, 74, died Thursday, January 28, 2016, at Comfort House Hospice in McAllen.
Born in Brownsville, Mr. Cavazos had lived in McAllen for the past 32 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and loved dogs. Alfredo was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving during the Vietnam Era and stationed in Thailand. Alfredo worked with maquiladoras Johnson Controls, Atapco, Kelly Corporation, and Cardinal Brand.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Tomas and Abigail Cavazos; a brother, Tomas Cavazos Jr.; a sister, Blanca C. Garcia; and his father-in-law, Alberto V. Martinez.
Alfredo is survived by his wife, Laura Martinez Cavazos of McAllen; a brother, Ricardo (Irma) Cavazos of McAllen; two sisters, Corina C. (Jesus Sr.) Zavaleta and Magda (Hugo) Rodriguez, both of Brownsville; his in-laws, Rey and Maria Luisa Herrera of Brownsville; two sisters-in-law, Carmen (Michael) Delchambre and Mary Lily Martinez, both of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., with a 6:30 p.m. celebration of life Sunday, January 31, 2016, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Jesus Zavaleta, Dr. Alvaro Restrepo at Texas Oncology, Dr. Ashan and Dr. Stephen Hook for the care given to Mr. Cavazos.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Comfort House, 617 Dallas, McAllen, Texas 78501.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
