FEDERICO P. CAVAZOS, JR. ALAMO — Federico P. Cavazos, Jr. 79, died Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at his residence in Alamo. Mr. Cavazos served in United States Army for nine years. He was employed by the Texas Employment Commission and retired after 20 years of service with veterans outreach and migrant placement. He loved the Lord and had a ministry where he would deliver bags of fruit and food for the colonias at Christmas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Petra and Federico Cavazos Sr.; two children, Federico Cavazos III, San Juana Garza-Whitehouse; and a brother, Pablo Cavazos. Federico is survived by his wife of 51 years, Maxine Young Cavazos of Alamo; four children, Flor Estela (†Leo) Saldana of Pharr, Leroy (Sandra) Cavazos of San Juan, Michael (Elizabeth) Cavazos, Alva Lee (Indra) Cavazos, both of Donna; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Gloria Sorensen of Alamo; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service Sunday, July 19, 2015, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 9 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2015, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen. Pallbearers will be Leroy James, Michael Vicent, Eric, Kevin, Kody Cavazos and Mathew Mendoza.
