It is with great sadness that the family of Maria de Jesus Cavazos Flores announces her passing after a brief illness, Friday, November 17, 2017. She passed away in her home surrounded by her family. Known to her family and friends as Tuta, she was blessed to live to the vibrant age of 94 years.
Tuta will lovingly be remembered by her three daughters and sons-in- law: Judith Azalea and Samuel Saldívar Jr., Patricia Elizabeth and Esau R. Peña, both of McAllen and Belinda Rubi and Dr. Marco A. Gutierrez of Edinburg. Tuta will be greatly missed by her five grandchildren, Sara Judith and Sam Juan Andrés Saldívar, Diego Alejandro, Catarina Rubi, and Natali Patricia Gutierrez.
Tuta is survived by her sisters and brother, Maria Ester Cavazos of Montemorelos, México, Margarita Elizabeth Cavazos Rodríguez of Monterrey, México, and Dr. Filiberto and Carol Cavazos of San Antonio, Texas. Tuta will be forever affectionately remembered by her many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Tuta was predeceased by her parents Filiberto Cavazos and Paula Alcázar, her sister Guadalupe Cavazos García and her beloved husband of 42 years, Juan Flores N.
She was born in Edinburg, Texas and attended St. Joseph Catholic School until the family returned to Montemorelos. There she excelled in school and touched many lives. Tuta was a member of the first graduating class of teachers in Montemorelos. She inspired her students, always adapting her teaching methods. Tuta continued teaching until she returned to Edinburg where she met her future husband. A continued love of learning led her to enroll in post graduate education at Pan American College. Her life experience included building a successful business with her husband. She was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt and grandmother. She was very beautiful, intelligent and had a great sense of humor. She inspired her children and grandchildren to keep God in their hearts, work hard, reach for their dreams, and hold family as the center of life. Tuta loved nature and possessed the unique gift of nursing injured birds and animals. She filled her family’s life with laughter, music, dance, travel and love for the U.S. and México’s rich history and culture. Tuta loved life and lived it to the fullest with her treasured family.
A celebration of Tuta’s life and Holy Rosary will be held Monday, November 20, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 215 N 16th Ave., Edinburg, Texas. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary prayed at 7:00 p.m. A Holy Mass will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 1:00 p.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg, Texas with Fr. Monoj Kumar Nayak, Pastor, presiding. Interment following mass will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Edinburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Maria de Jesus Cavazos Flores to the PAWS Center to help in the care of dogs and cats at the Palm Valley Animal Shelter. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
