MIA ISABELLA CHAVEZ
EDINBURG/HOUSTON - Mia Isabella Chavez, 4 months, went to be with the angels on November 29, 2009 at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston.
Mia, who graced her parents' lives with her birth on July 27, 2009, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg, Texas, is preceded in death by her uncle Eduardo Chavez in 2006.
Left to cherish her memory is her father, German Chavez; her mother, Elisabeth Cheshire-Chavez; and her big brother, Tristan Edward Chavez, all originally from Edinburg.
She is also survived by her grandparents, Enrique and Isabel Chavez of McAllen, Texas; Rocky and Linda Cheshire of Harlingen, Texas; and Toni Lee Cheshire of Pulaski, New York. Also surviving Mia is her godmother, Kelly Primm-Roach, of Houston, who is also Tristan’s godmother.
Mia’s uncles, aunts and 17 cousins who also grieve her loss are comforted in knowing she is now their own little guardian angel in heaven; and her parents rest assured with the knowledge that the Lord not only blessed them with her birth but is embracing her in His arms today.
Mia amazed all who were touched by her short, miraculous life for her fighting spirit and the beautiful glow she emitted despite all the odds against her. She will live forever in the hearts of her family and close friends.
Mia’s parents wish to thank all the neonatal intensive care unit nurses at Texas Children's Hospital – namely her primary nurses, Cybil Herring, Jana Berry, Kristi Deborde, Jennifer Eaves, Leslie Williams, Holly Gregersen and Michelle Colby – for their professional care and loving support from the time Mia arrived there shortly after her birth until even now that she’s taken her last breath. “We love you,” they say to them.
They would also like to thank the cardiovascular intensive care unit nurses, Elizabeth Mallet, Jennifer Harris and Cheryl Leach. “You ladies are amazing,” they say. To Nurse Practitioner Priscila Reid, Mia’s parents say, “What would we have done without you? Thank you.”
Dr. Jeffery Heinle, Mia’s surgeon; Dr. Elena Ocampo and Dr. Heather Dickerson, her primary cardiologists; and Dr. Pirouz Shamszad also hold a special place in the Chavez family’s heart.
Tristan and his parents also extend their gratitude to Molly LaFauci, a Child Life partner who helped take care of him while Mia was in the hospital, and their social worker, Maggie Lampe, who worked so hard to make sure they didn’t need anything after their move to Houston.
They also thank the Texas Department of Public Safety for making it possible for German to keep his family together while they sought medical care for Mia in Houston; their friends Pam Del Angel Bynum and Martha Godinez for helping plan a special photo presentation to honor Mia at her upcoming prayer service; and all their family and friends in the Rio Grande Valley and Houston for their unconditional love, support and prayers.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Friday, December 4, 2009 at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2009, at Baptist Temple in McAllen. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen.
Mia's parents ask everyone to support It's My Heart Foundation, , to advocate for and help all families and children who are fighting to live with congenital and acquired heart defects.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
