Rogelio Chavez, 85, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg.
Rogelio Chavez was retired from the United States Navy where he proudly served for 21 years. He was also retired from the United States Postal Service. Rogelio was a loving husband and father. He and his wife Anita were married for 57 wonderful years. Rogelio will most fondly be missed for his love of telling stories that began with, "In 1956 when I was on a ship in...", his love for spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandson, and his love for snow-cones.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesus Chavez and Aurora Garza Ibarra; step-father, Julian Ibarra; three siblings, Frank Ibarra, Margarita Rodarte, and Rachel Perez.
Mr. Chavez is survived by his loving wife, Anita R. Chavez; two daughters, Judith (Carl) Flowers, Suzette Chavez; a son, Mark Chavez; daughter - in -law, Deyanira Chavez; six siblings, Belia (Tony) Villarreal, Julian (Josefina) Ibarra, Jr., Noelia (Juan) Soto, Rosemary (Oliel) Sanchez, Ramona (Daniel) Ramos, and Arturo (Janis) Ibarra, and brother-in-law, Frank Perez.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 6 p.m. prayer service today, February 24, 2021, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 25, 2021, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
Rogelio's grandchildren and nephews will serve as pallbearers: Carl Flowers II, Talicia Flowers, Anita M. Chavez, Bradley Brown, Rodolfo Robles, and Erasmo Robles.
Military Honors will be conducted by VFW Post 7473 of Elsa.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
