Ercilia A. Cisneros was born on May 17, 1940, in Hidalgo, TX, and was the youngest of five sisters and two brothers in a very close and loving family. Their parents were Pedro Acevedo and Julia Lozano Acevedo.
Affectionately known as Ercilia, "Chila", Mom, Cuma, and Grandma, she was the beloved matriarch of her family. Ercilia was happily married to the late Pete Cisneros Sr. for 47 wonderful years. She was one of Hidalgo's first city Queens who represented the city in many events and also the city's Secretary for many years. She was also known as an incredible cook who took pride in feeding anyone who would visit her house at any time of day! Famous for her huge flour tortillas, carne guisada, and her delectable rice and beans! Her healing chicken soup was the simplest and most delicious! Her made from scratch pan de polvo will be especially missed by anyone who was lucky enough to be present on those special occasions! Her patience was truly one of her greatest gifts and attributes. It was exceptional, remarkable, and unbelievable how she loved in such a generous and loving way. Ercilia's love for her family and friends could only be surpassed by her love for God. Ercilia was a steadfast and faithful member of Sacred Heart Church in Hidalgo for many years. She and her husband and her sister Tere prayed the rosary for countless funerals throughout her entire life. Ercilia will be dearly missed by her friends, the community, grandchildren, family but especially by her children who thought the world of her. We will forever miss her voice blessing us with, "Que Dios los bendiga" when we would leave her house.
