GENOVEVA HERNANDEZ CORTEZ
PHARR - Genoveva Hernandez Cortez, 79, died Monday, August 3, 2009 at LifeCare Hospital of South Texas in McAllen.
Born in Nuevo Leon, Mexico, Mrs. Hernandez had lived in Pharr all of her life and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pharr.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Raul Hernandez; her parents, Onecimo and Bernarda Rodriguez de Cortez; a daughter, Rosa Hilda Hernandez; a brother; and two sisters.
Mrs. Hernandez is survived by 8 children, Guadalupe (Odelia) Sanchez, Maria De La Luz Sanchez, Noe (Maria Ana) Sanchez, Romelia (Raul Sergio) Gonzalez, all of Houston, Texas, Roberto Hernandez, Rosa Hilda Hernandez, Agustin Hernandez and David (Beatriz) Hernandez, all of Pharr; four step children, Maria De La Luz Hernandez of California, Raul (Guadalupe) Hernandez of Pharr, Ramon (Nina) Hernandez of Houston, Texas and Oliver (Rosa) Hernandez of Nuevo Leon, Mexico; 40 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six brothers.
A rosary was held Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m., today, August 5, 2009 at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at San Juan Cemetery.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
