Crimilda Alemán, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, cherished friend, and devout Catholic, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on April 29, 1935, in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico, Crimilda’s life was a testament to her unwavering faith, tireless work ethic, and love for her family.
Crimilda, mostly known as ‘Mila’, immigrated to the United States at the age of 13 seeking new opportunities and a better life. She met her husband, Preciliano, known as ‘Pres’, in Mississippi, and married in 1952. As a migrant worker, she embraced the challenges of her journey with resilience and courage. Always seizing opportunities, she was able to learn English with the support of courses led by the Alamo community. This allowed her to get hired and eventually retire from her job with the cafeteria at Alamo Middle School.
Crimilda found strength in her Catholic faith and was an active member of her church and community. Most notably, she was an active participant in ‘Las Guadalupanas.’ This group, associated with Resurrection Catholic Church, hosted prayer services, led church activities, and provided a close-knit community of worship. Her involvement was a source of great pride for her.
Crimilda was always a devoted mother to her children. Her legacy of strength lives on through them and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her fierce honesty, fantastic orator skills, and love of sweet treats. You could almost always find her at church. If not at church, she was at home with a dessert in hand surrounded by family in her living room. She will be missed greatly.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Preciliano Alemán; her parents, Gabino Contreras and Natalia Mendiola Contreras; her sister, Belinda Robles; and her son, Antonio Alemán Sr.
Crimilda is survived by her three daughters, Maria Elena Pérez (Alfonso), Sylvia Contreras, and Patricia V. Alemán; two sons, Ricardo Alemán (Nereyda) and Héctor Alemán (Lydia); daughter-in-law, Annette Alemán; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Benito Contreras and Lupe Contreras.
