ASCENCION D. CUEVAS

ALAMO - Ascencion D. Cuevas passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen with his family and loved ones in his presence.

Ascencion was born on August 15, 1923 in Alamo to Matias Munoz Cuevas and Cristina Diaz Cuevas. He was a lifelong resident of Alamo and a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo.

He is preceded in death by his parents, but goes to be with Jesus Christ.

Ascencion is survived by his wife of 64 years, Esiquia G. Cuevas; 11 children, Ramon (Diana) Cuevas, Anita Cuevas, Francisco (Elma) Cuevas, Guadalupe (Irineo) Hinojosa, Rojelio (Melinda) Cuevas, Juanita (Fidel) Saldana, Matilde (Noe) Lopez, Teresa (Eloy) Hernandez, Ricardo (Maxine) Cuevas, Martin (Elisa) Cuevas and Cynthia Michelle Cuevas; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Librado (Angelita +) Cuevas, Herman (Guadalupe) Cuevas, Florentino (Frances) Cuevas, Roque (Lilia) Cuevas; and a sister, Alicia (Rafael +) Arreola.

He will always be remembered as a caring son to his parents, a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and a strong brother to his siblings. We will miss him dearly but are comforted with the knowledge that he will be in heaven with our Lord and will rest in peace.

The family would like to thank the 4th floor staff at Rio Grande Regional Hospital for the care that they provided our dad in his final moments. We would also like to thank Dr. Nehal Patel (Valley Retina Institute, P.A.), Dr. Venkatara Behara (Family Practice), Dr. Eugenio Galindo (McAllen Oncology, P.A.), Dr. Max Hernandez (Family Practice), Dr. Marcelo Boek (South Texas Cancer Center), and other health care professionals that have provided in-office or home care.

We would like to thank all of our family members and friends that have provided prayers and words of comfort in our time of need. We especially would like to thank our aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins that have come from as far as San Antonio, Ohio, and Arizona to be with us.

A rosary was held Friday, May 7, 2010 at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will be at 11:30 am, today, May 8, 2010 at Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alamo.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
