DR. NORMA DE LA GARZA ALONZO
EDINBURG – Dr. Norma de la Garza Alonzo, 55, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, February 25, 2021, after a short illness.
She was born March 21, 1965 in Edinburg, Texas to Jesse and Elvira de la Garza and was a dedicated dentist employed with Dr. J. Michael Adame, DDS, P.A.
Norma graduated from Edinburg High School in 1983 where she was actively involved with Student Council and band where she was drum major her senior year. She graduated from Pan American University with a degree in biology and from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Dental Branch.
She was active in her church, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg, and a member of the Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of Americas, Eucharistic minister, school board member of St. Joseph School. She was also involved with Turkey Fest, Edinburg Junior League, Edinburg Senior League, a founding member of Boy Scouts Troop 1954, and proudly served in RGV Aggie Moms.
She is preceded in death by her father, Jesse de la Garza.
Norma is survived by her husband, Roland Alonzo; her two sons, Dr. Roland Matthew Alonzo (Dr. Kaylee Alonzo) of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and Phillip Michael Alonzo of Edinburg; her mother, Elvira de la Garza; four siblings, Dr. Andrew (Dr. Donna Joule) de la Garza of McAllen, Peter (Alma) de la Garza, Helen (Tommy) Santiago, and John de la Garza, of Edinburg.
A rosary will be held at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral mass at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, February 27, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg.
Cremation will take place at Memorial Cremation Center, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 114 W. Fay Edinburg, Texas 78539.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
