Bernardo de la Garza, 82, entered eternal rest on Sunday, June 17, 2018, in Edinburg, TX.
He was born July 28, 1935 in Hebbronville, TX to Rafael and Bertha de la Garza who preceded him in death. His only sister, Sylvia de la Garza Moya and his niece, Renee Adela Moya also preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Alma Lopez de la Garza; his two children, Rafael (Marina) de la Garza, and Gloria de la Garza Pemberton (Scott); his four grandchildren are Rafael de la Garza III, Cristian Phillipe de la Garza, Jordan Scott Pemberton and Allyson Renee Pemberton; surviving cousins, Maria Adela Munoz Gutierrez of Hebbronville, Adriana McKendrick, Griselda Peña, Hector Garza Gongora, Feliz Garza Gongora, Ernesto Garza Gongora, and Carlos Garza Gongora, all of Laredo.
Bernardo attended the public schools of Hebbronville and graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics. Bernardo was employed by Texas Department of Agriculture, Aid for International Development (Department of State) and U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development. He was a Military Police in U.S. Army and served three years. While with USAID he was stationed in La Paz, Bolivia for 25 months and in South Viet Nam November 1968 through November 1970. With USDA Rural Development he was stationed in San Benito, Rio Grande City, Temple, and Edinburg, TX.
Bernardo was a member of the Knights of Columbus as a 4th Degree K.C., Saint Joseph’s Parish, and Beefmaster Breeders Universal. His passion was his ranch Randado, founded in 1767. Randado’s history and legacy as an early Texas settlement, and his herd of Beefmaster cattle.
He will be regarded as a wonderful son and husband and a loving father to his children and grandchildren. Above all he loved his God, his country and his family.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Friday, June 22, 2018, at Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 9 a.m., Saturday, June 23, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. A reception will immediately follow at Memorial Event Center in Edinburg. Private interment will take place at Randado Cemetery in Randado, TX.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
