HOMERO NARCISO DELGADO

Mr. Homero N. Delgado passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, after battling a long illness.

He graduated from McAllen High School in 1956 and attended Allen Military Academy in Bryan, TX for one year, where he received the rank of Cadet Sergeant. The following year he went to Texas A & M and joined the Tank Battalion Company B. In 1962, Mr. Delgado joined the United States Army and proudly served his country for three years, serving overseas in Korea for one year. He was assigned to Detachment A KMAG in Korea.

After obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in 1967, Mr. Delgado became a teacher with the PSJA school district and taught elementary students for thirty four years. He cared deeply about his students and encouraged them to finish their education, introducing many of them to the game of chess, a pass time he enjoyed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Narciso and Paula Delgado.

Mr. Delgado was a family man deeply committed to his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of forty years, Raquel Delgado; two daughters, Marissa (Thomas) Brooks and Karin (Lorenzo) Cervantes; six grandchildren, Marcos, Matthew, Mia, Gavin, Gia, and Colton; one sister, Imelda (Edgar) Cortes.

In keeping his wishes, he will have a memorial service at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 29, 2011, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Entombment of cremated remains will be at 10 a.m., Friday, September 30, 2011, at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
