STEVEN RONALD DERSHEM
MCALLEN - Steven Ronald Dershem, born October 20, 1947, died suddenly at his home on November 1, 2010.
Born in Laurens, Iowa, Steven graduated from St. Peter High School in Minnesota. He entered the Medical Corps of the United States Army and served in Anchorage, Alaska.
In 1978, Steven moved to McAllen to be close to his parents. Following his passion for cosmetology, he opened The Golden Curl in the early eighties. In 1984, he partnered in Illusions Hair Salon, a successful business that has enjoyed his creative direction for 26 years.
Steve’s many diverse talents included his incredible ability to transform his beauty clientele while making it fun for everyone. He had a superior knack for decorating, claiming “Let’s make you fall in love with your home again!” From the salon to clients’ homes to his lovely garden, nothing escaped Steve’s artistic eye, energetic attention, and appreciation of beauty.
Steven is survived by his mother, Rosemary Dershem; his brother Thom Dershem; his special friend, Eloy Trevino; his cousins Joy, Penny, and Tammie; as well as numerous other extended family. He was preceded in death by his father Donald Dershem.
Steven leaves behind many devoted friends and clients who will remember him for his amazing creative talents and engaging manner.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. with a public prayer service at 7 p.m., today, November 4, 2010 at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Comfort House, 617 Dallas Avenue, McAllen, Texas 78501.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
