LARRY W. DOEPPENSCHMIDT
MCALLEN - Larry W. Doeppenschmidt, 74, entered eternal rest Saturday, November 27, 2021, at McAllen Heart Hospital.
Born in San Antonio, Texas he had lived in McAllen most of his life. His family and the Fighting Texas Aggies were his greatest loves.
Larry was married almost forty-five years to his Queen, and they could always be seen together. They enjoyed living life by each other's side. He also adored his sons Christopher and Andrew and could always be heard telling others of their accomplishments. He loved being a godfather and most recently was proud to be a father-in-love and grandfather.
He graduated in 1969 with a degree in Marketing from Texas A & M University. He worked in retail for many years in McAllen, Harlingen, Brownsville, Arlington, Kansas, and San Antonio. He accumulated many life-long friends along the way. He retired after serving P-SJ-A ISD with excellence for over twenty-six years as Director of Purchasing.
One of his favorite past times was watching the Aggies play football (Whoop!). He loved going to the games and midnight yell. He was a former member of Squadron 5, Filthy Fifth, and enjoyed attending reunions.
Larry was a faithful member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, and the children were always excited to see Santa in their congregation on Christmas Eve.
He is preceded in death by his father, Roland Jacob Doeppenschmidt; and his nephew, Noah Robles.
Mr. D. (as he was affectionately called), is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Doeppenschmidt of McAllen; two sons, Christopher J. Doeppenschmidt of Alamo, Andrew B. (Amy) Doeppenschmidt of Mission, two grandsons, Isaiah and Jesse James; his mother, Leona B. Moore; a brother, Dennis Doeppenschmidt, both of San Antonio; his father and mother-in-law, Romeo and Rosa Robles, Sr. of Pharr; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Romeo (Janet) Robles, Jr., Joan Philpot, both of Pharr, Roel (+Cathy) Robles of South Padre Island; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at St. Mark United Methodist Church in McAllen. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen.
