AGUSTIN “TINO” P. DURON, JR.
EDINBURG - I, Agustin “Tino” P. Duron, Jr., joined my Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 10, 2011. Born on September 17, 1935 and raised in Del Rio, Texas, I graduated from San Felipe High School in 1954 and then attended Sul Ross State College in Alpine, Texas where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1958. I began my professional career with San Felipe School District as an educator for elementary and junior high students. I later attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas and received a Masters of Science degree in 1976. My passion for the education of migrant children and families led me to Edinburg, Texas, where I resided for over 32 years.
While living in Edinburg, I was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. It was also in Edinburg that I became employed with Region 1 Education Service Center as a Migrant Education Consultant, receiving many accolades for my unwavering service. My overwhelming commitment to education was shown not just through my career but in the values I instilled in my family who carry on my legacy.
I am preceded in death by my mother, Martina Pesina Duron; my sister, Alicia Duron Talamantez and my brother-in-law, Armando E. Talamantez.
I am remembered by my caring wife, Natalie D. Duron; my talented daughter, Deidra Ann Duron (Erik) Archilla; three beautiful step children, Michele Marie (Todd) Shampoe, John Aaron (Stephanie) Ramirez, Adriana Maria (Bryan) Strait; and five grandchildren, Dylan and Cameron Shampoe, Hunter and Jacob Ramirez, and Mason Strait; a sister, Belia Duron Zuniga; my only niece, Aissa Talamantez (Ray) Zapata; two nephews, John Avilez and Mark Duron; and two grand nephews, Justin Garcia and Daniel Zapata.
Visitation will be held at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 East Canton in Edinburg on Sunday, February 13 at 5 p.m., followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. in my honor. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday the 14th at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Immediately following the church service I will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Pallbearers will be Todd Shampoe, John Ramirez, Bryan Strait, Eric Archilla, Ray Zapata and Joe Galvan. Honorary pallbearer will be Justin Garcia.
My soul has left this earth but my heart will always be with my dear wife, Natalie. I thank you for the love and devotion you showed me in sickness and in health all of the days of my life.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
