He was devout to his Catholic faith and was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish, where he served as an usher and was an ACTS brother. Mr. Elizondo was also the number one fan to both of his granddaughters who were members of the PSJA Varsity Bearettes. Mr. Elizondo truly embodied the saying “Once a Bear, Always a Bear.” Just days before his passing he was able to make it out to watch The Mighty Bears defeat the Edinburg Economedes Jaguars, a game that both his son and grandson were officiating. He had passion for his favorite sports, he looked forward to the weekends so that he could cheer on the Texas A&M University Aggies and Dallas Cowboys.
Family always came first to Gustavo; he always made sure his close ones were always well taken care. Most notable he would lend a hand with repairing appliances and making it out to weekend fishing trips.
