AMANDO ESTRADA EDINBURG - Amando Estrada, 83, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at McAllen Medical Center. Born in Alamo, Mr. Estrada lived in Edinburg most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War in artillery. He was also employed with Hidalgo County Drainage District 1, where he worked for over 30 years. Amando was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and uncle with the softest heart in the world, whom will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, Regino and Josefa Garza Estrada. Mr. Estrada is survived by his wife, Amalia B. Estrada, of Edinburg; eight children, Amando Estrada, Jr., of San Antonio, Lucia E. (Javier) Gracia, of Austin, Sylvia E. (Gilbert) Treviño, Rosalinda E. "Cooky" (Victor) Cantu, Rene Estrada, Roberto (Dora) Estrada, Ruben Estrada, Josefina E. (Steve) Saenz, all of Edinburg; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A rosary was held Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary today, January 24, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 25, 2013, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 8788 of McAllen. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
