JAMES EDWARD ETHRIDGE EDINBURG -James Edward Ethridge, the blessed son of Namoa Shaw and Bennie Ethridge, who came into their lives in Buffalo Missouri on March 31, 1935 has joined them to dwell in the eternal joy that is the promise of the Lord’s kingdom. James gently completed his temporal journey of 77 years on the morning of January 4, 2013 in Edinburg, Texas. He crossed the threshold of the portals into the Promised Land and at long last is with his beloved wife Angelita Sanchez Ethridge in blissful reunion in the gentle arms of God’s infinite love. His voyage in this world started out of the great depression that gripped the country with despair. His father died before he could know him, his mother stricken by a prolonged illness that took her away from him before he saw the years of adulthood. Through it all a shadow always was upon him that marked him for pity from others as they looked upon his physical handicap. Yet his mind bright with hope and the energy of youth allowed him to transcend his limitations. Unfettered by his handicap, spirit rich with adventure, he struck out into the world away from the home of his childhood and journeyed across our country searching to create a life for himself until he came to Edinburg and fell in love with Angelita and spent the next 51 years sharing a life and raising three sons. His memory is carried on by his three sons, Benjamin Ethridge, Anthony Ethridge, and Adrian Ethridge; three daughter-in-laws, Carolina Felix Ethridge, Denise Murphy, and Rebecca Trevino; grandchildren, Eliza Ethridge, Ethan Ethridge, and Victoria Ethridge. Memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment to follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens in Donna. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
