CELINA NELL FLORES
EDINBURG - Celina Nell Flores, 32, died Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at McAllen Medical Center.
Born in McAllen, Celina had lived in Edinburg all of her life. She attended Edinburg High School where she graduated in 2002. Celina was a Red and Blue Sergeanette, was involved in Fellow Christian Athletes and also played the saxophone. In 2012, Celina initiated her career in law enforcement working as a Dispatcher with Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office. A graduate of Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office Academy, Celina became a Deputy Sheriff and was later promoted to Senior Deputy Sheriff and Public Information Officer for the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department. Deputy Celina Flores positively influenced the lives of many before and during her law enforcement career.
She devoted her life to helping others and volunteering in many organizations. She served as a Board Member of Texas Municipal Police Association (TMPA), was a member of Hidalgo County Crime Stoppers, Administrator for South Texas Sheepdogs, and was a member of Family in Blue (a nonprofit organization that helps police officers and their families).
She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Jose and Eliza Flores; and her maternal grandfather, Zaragoza Rodriguez.
Celina is survived by her parents, David and Nellie R. Flores of Edinburg; two sisters, Nelda (Noe) Rios and Celeste Iris Flores, both of Edinburg; two nieces, Vanessa Nicole Rios and Chelsey Lorraine Rios, both of Edinburg; maternal grandmother, Isabel Rodriguez of Edinburg; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, September 22, 2016, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
Pallbearers will be Ricardo Flores, David Lee Flores, Noe Flores Jr., and Senior Deputies, Ricardo R. Garcia, Jorge Bazan and Homero Zavala.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
