Minerva M. Flores ("Minnie"), 94, passed away Monday, June 20, 2022 at The Gardens
at Brook Ridge Assisted Living in Pharr.
She was born in Donna, Texas on February 12, 1928 the sixth of ten children in the family. She excelled in school and graduated from Donna High School in 1947 where she earned an academic scholarship to attend college. She forewent college and started working for the Department of Public Welfare where she remained for 10 years. In 1953 she married Espiridion Flores and the couple settled in Pharr where they resided for many years. Minnie left her job to raise her first child in 1961. She was a devout Catholic throughout her life and taught CCD at St. Jude Catholic Church in Pharr and most recently was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church in Pharr. She was an avid gardener and loved taking care of her plants and flowers and enjoyed cooking and baking much to the enjoyment of her family. After several years dedicated to raising her children she returned to work at various medical offices until retirement. Although she did not attend college she instilled the importance of education in her children, both of whom went on to pursue graduate degrees. She was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles, an interest which she passed on to her children.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Espirdion "Spiri" Flores; a daughter, Edna Marie Flores; her parents, Nicolas and Enedina Mendoza; four sisters and two brothers. The family would like to thank the staff at the Gardens at Brook Ridge and Amara Hospice for their care and support.
Mrs. Flores is survived by her son, Rene Flores; three sisters, Macrina (Maxine) Singleterry, Maura Mendoza, Marta Lindsey; seven nieces and five nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 6 p.m. rosary Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral Services will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2022 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Pharr. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Funeral Services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
