ALAMO - Deacon Jose Jesus Galvan, 76, went home to the Lord Sunday, December 6, 2020, at Solara Specialty Hospitals of McAllen.
Born and raised in Guanajuato, MX, Deacon Galvan was an active parishioner of his local church. He then moved to the United States and began his course of study to become a deacon while a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. In 1989, Jesus and his family moved to Alamo where he continued his ministry at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. He was ordained a deacon in May 12, 1990, and continued to serve the Alamo community at Resurrection Catholic Church until May 2006 when he was assigned to the Basilica of San Juan Del Valle National Shrine in San Juan.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Guadalupe Galvan; and his parents, Ramon and Guadalupe Galvan.
Deacon Galvan is survived by his daughter, Martha Edith (Oscar) Garrido of Fort Worth; four grandchildren, Zaira J. (Fernando) Galvan-Hernandez, Magnolia (Omar) Garrido-Ramirez, Jose Jesus Garrido, Oscar Ulises Garrido; four great-granddaughters, Selene J., Eveny I., Luna, Elena I.; two great-grandsons, Oscar A., Mateo S.; ten siblings, Francisca Fuentes of Mission, Hortencia Medina of CA, Sergio Galvan of Edinburg, Ramona Sanchez of Watsonville, CA, Enrique Galvan of Greenfield, CA, Javier Galvan of Soledad, CA, Jose Elio Galvan, Federico Galvan, Velma Galvan-Moreno, all of CA, Ramon Galvan Jr. of McAllen; Galvan and Perez Family of Guanajuato, MX; and Sandoval Family of Reynosa.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 6 p.m. rosary Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle National Shrine in San Juan. Cremation will follow at Memorial Cremation Center in Edinburg. Interment of cremated remains will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, December 11, 2020, at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alamo.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
