Emma Garate Willis

Our beloved mother, Emma Garate Willis, 92, of Edinburg, Texas went into her heavenly home, surrounded by her loving children on Friday, October 8, 2021, at Edinburg Regional Medical Center. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was born in La Sara, Texas on June 17, 1929, and raised in Monte Alto, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John D. Willis; her parents, Manuel and Concepcion Garate; and eight siblings, Eleuteria Davila, Esequiel Garate, Ramon Garate, Victor Garate, Timoteo Garate, Candelaria Heredia, Carlos Garate; and Antonia Martinez.
Mrs. Willis is survived by four children, Debra (Eddy) Grant, Dennis (Margarita) Willis, Doreen Willis, Diane Willis; three grandchildren, Patricia Ann Grant Brown (Bob), Cassandra K. Willis, John Michael (Teresa) Willis; three great-grandchildren, O'livia L. Castilleja, Arya J. Castilleja, Emma M. Willis; and a sister-in-law, Macrina Garate.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 6 p.m. rosary Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 East Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.
