ERNESTO GARCIA EDINBURG - Ernesto Garcia, 66, died Saturday, September 27, 2014, at his residence in Edinburg. Born in Mercedes, Mr. Garcia had lived in Edinburg most of his life. Ernesto was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a retired teacher from Edinburg CISD, and continued to work for Edinburg CISD as a substitute teacher. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rodolfo and Carolina Garcia; a sister, Arminda Cadena; a brother, Rodolfo Garcia, Jr.; a nephew, James R. Closner; and his step-mother, Paulita Garcia. Ernesto is survived by three siblings, Herminia (Ramon) Moreno of Mercedes, Alfredo (Carol) Garcia of Dallas, TX, Rene (Martha) Garcia of Indio, CA; his partner of 27 years, Wilfredo Perez of Edinburg; his loving niece, Yolanda Moreno of McAllen; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service today, October 1, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 2, 2014, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 93 of Mission. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
