FLAVIA GARCIA EDINBURG – God called an angel on Earth to join him and her departed ones in heaven on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg. Flavia Garcia was born in Ciudad Mier, Tamps., MX on March 10, 1924 to Andres and Julianita Garcia. She is preceded in death by her husband, Cornelio Garcia; a son, Homero Garcia; her parents, Juliana and Andres Garcia; a brother, Andres Garcia; and two sisters, Evangelina Bermudez and Juliana Lopez. Mrs. Garcia is survived by two daughters, Martha (Dr. Leo L.) Figueroa of Edinburg, Alicia (Leopoldo) Canales of Falcon Heights, TX; a grandson, Leo Figueroa, II; a granddaughter, Linda Figueroa, both of Edinburg; three sisters, Erotidia Ramirez of Zapata, TX, Candelaria Ramirez and Gregoria Garcia, both of Ciudad Mier, Tamps., MX; and many nieces and nephews. Flavia or “Guela” as she was lovingly called will be remembered by all for her jokes, her wonderful eyesight, her love of mending and washing clothes, and her love of pan dulce. Guela loved to cook menudo for her son-in-law and pamper her grandchildren. While in good health, she enjoyed going to Dulces Caricias Daycare Center to play chalupa. In addition she was an avid lucha libre fan! Guela was a loving friend to many (especially “grandma” Figueroa) and loved to have visitors. She was a woman with strong religious beliefs and always overcame many obstacles that came her way. She became an American Citizen in 1998 and was very proud of doing so as she had worked in the United States all her life. Her love for her family will be cherished by all who survive her. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Salineño Cemetery in Salineño, TX. The family wishes to thank Dr. Pedro Arrazola and his staff for the medical care rendered over the last 25 years. They would also like to thank her caregivers Olga, Rosie, and Alejandra. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
