Guadalupe “Lupita” C. Garcia, 82, died Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.
Mrs. Garcia was born in Mercedes, TX and lived in San Juan all of her life. Lupita was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan and faithfully served as a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society for over 30 years. During this time she was committed to distributing food to the needy families in the community. Her service to the community didn’t end with the food distribution but she also visited every needy family and through the organization, provided financial assistance to families without funds to pay for basic utilities. Along with other society members she helped organize and served hot meals to those in need on a weekly basis. Guadalupe was recognized by St. Vincent de Paul Society and St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish for her unyielding commitment and dedication to her community.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Teodoro and Felipa Castillo; a brother, Pedro Castillo.
Lupita is survived by her husband, Jose G. Garcia of San Juan; two sons, Joe L. (Melba) Garcia of Pharr, Jaime (Nelda) Garcia of Mission; five daughters, Maria C. Sams of Dallas, Yolanda Garcia of San Juan, Blanca (Enrique) Flores, Isabel Ibanez, Vianey (Roy) Villegas, all of McAllen; two brothers, Jesus Castillo of San Juan, Juan Manuel Castillo of Pharr; five sisters, Criselda Benavides, Abelina Garza, Magdalena Guitierrez, all of San Juan, Clementina Landa, San Juanita Aguirre, both of Pharr; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with 7 p.m. rosary Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, November 3, 2017, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
