Jesus "Chito" Garcia

December 25, 1923 — August 26, 2015

JESUS "CHITO" GARCIA EDINBURG - Jesus "Chito" Garcia, 91, died Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at Edinburg Regional Medical Center. Jesus Garcia was born on Christmas Day in Montemorelos, Mexico. To help his parents support his nine younger siblings, he moved to the states, working in various jobs in cities such as New Orleans, St. Louis, New York City, and Chicago. He settled at Inland Steel Company in Indiana Harbor where he worked for 30 years. It was there that he met the love of his life, Bertha Lopez of East Chicago and started his family. After Bertha's death in 1985, the family moved to the Rio Grande Valley and have lived there since. His joys in life were being with family, compadreando, listening to traditional Mexican music, and enjoying good food. He died as he lived - loved and honored by friends, family, and all who knew him. His children consider themselves privileged and abundantly blessed to have called him "Dad". They rest in God's peace and know that he is now in God's glorious presence with "Mom" by his side. He is preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Garcia; parents, Jesus and Isabela Garcia; and a brother, Juan Garcia. Chito is survived by three children, Jesse (Nelda) Garcia Jr., Cynde (Willy) Contreras, and Laurie (Tom) Dolan; six grandchildren, Zachary, Rebekah Shiloh, Savannah Faith, Cristian De Jesus, Carlo Ascension, and Jack Thomas; and eight siblings, Hortencia Torres, Irene Sepulveda, Oralia Garza, Isabel Hernandez, Carlos Garcia, Jaime Garcia, Oscar Garcia, and Olga Correa. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m., with a 6 p.m. celebration of life today, August 28, 2015, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Edinburg.
