SGT. JORGE LUIS "JL" GARCIA PHARR - Jorge Luis "JL" Garcia was called by the Lord on Friday, August 9, 2013, at the age of 51. He was born in San Benito, Texas on April 5, 1962 to Enrique Garcia and Tomasa Rodriguez Garcia. JL was raised in San Benito and was a 1981 graduate of San Benito High School. He went on to attend Texas Southmost College in Brownsville where he studied Criminal Justice. Throughout his career he amassed many training hours in several fields of Law Enforcement instructions. JL began his career as a police officer at the TSTC Harlingen Campus until March 22, 1983 and was then employed as a police officer with City of Santa Rosa from March 18, 1985 to October 5, 1985. In 1986 he became a police officer with the City of Pharr and was promoted to Sergeant on November 29, 2007, a position he held until his passing. He is preceded in death by his mother, Tomasa Garcia. JL is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Garcia; two beautiful children, Valerie Nicole and Daniel Jay, all of Pharr; his father, Enrique Garcia, of San Benito; and a sister, Blanca Cuellar, of Baytown. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, August 11, 2013, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary Monday, August 12, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at Trinity Worship Center in Pharr. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Pallbearers will be Sgt. Rolando Renteria, Lt. Aurora Salinas, Jesse Gonzalez, Gilbert Garza, Sgt. Max Longoria and Asst. Chief Joel Robles. Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.
